CHICKENS
My husband’s Uncle Thomas raised prize-winning bantams in Yorkshire, England. His fancy fowl were my initial inspiration for chicken paintings, although once I started, I found it hard to stop. There is something about the simple shape of the chicken that I enjoy – a triangular mass balancing awkwardly on two prehistoric legs. I think of these paintings as portraits; I try and capture a feeling in each chicken’s expression and stance – hope, surprise, and determination.
